The newcomer to the household, Jess is the chilhood friend of Daisy Shelby. Strong, independent and loyal, she often finds herself confused by the strong characters she is surrounded by - in particular Hugh Darvill, her new eccentric landlord.

 

Jess' relationship with Emmett, Daisy's twin brother, is complicated to say the least. Having known each other briefly as small children, the two did not see each other for nearly ten years before reconnecting during a joint bout of writer's block - at which point neither recognised the other. Reuniting once more the following year, both were suprised to learn the each other's true identities, but quickly became close friends.

 

However, as time goes by, Jess' feelings for Emmett deepen beyond the point of friendship - feelings which are further complicated by the arrival of Clarice, Emmett's new girlfriend. Jess is often left confused by her growing feelings for her best friend, and by the mixed signals Emmett seems to give her in return.
